Dr. Wolter Paans is coordinating professor of the Nursing Diagnostics research group at Hanze University, (HUAS), School of Nursing, Groningen, the Netherlands.

Within this professorship, he collaborates with four fellow professors: Critical Care, Family Care, Value Based Health Care, and Science & Education.

Wolter has bachelors, masters and a doctorate in nursing-related fields: nursing education (First degree qualification), nursing sciences (MSc.), and biomedical sciences (PhD.), from the universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam (NL), Cardiff (UK), and Leuven, (B).

He has 25 years of experience in nursing education, especially in "blended learning" and "e-learning". In addition, he focuses on theoretical and applied research in particular diagnostic issues, critical reasoning skills, nursing documentation and interdisciplinary transfer, as well as the development of the electronic personal health environment (PHE).

At the moment, Point of Care Testing (Bed-side diagnostics by nurses) is central to his assignment within the Nursing Diagnostics research group.

Within his professorship, Wolter has been appointed for 0.4 FTE as a clinical researcher within the Intensive Care Adults Unit (Department of Critical Care) of the UMCG, for example for the purposes of 'Follow Up Intensive Care Studies' (FICS).

Wolter contributes to the assignments Critical Care, Family Care, Value Based Health Care and Nursing Diagnostics as a co-supervisor (in cooperation with UvU, RuG).

Wolter is a scholar of the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS), a member of STT-I, a member of The North American Nursing Diagnoses Association (NANDA-I), a board member (vice-president) of the Association for Common Nursing Diagnoses, Interventions and Outcomes ( ACENDIO), and Fellow of the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health (RUG / UMCG).

Expertise in: Evidence Based Practice in Nursing; qualitative as well as quantitative designs, and the development of teaching tools for research opportunities, such as blended learning, and e-learning programs in methodology and reasoning skills.
