T.S. (Tim) van den Hoek, MA

Tim van den Hoek is lecturer for Swedish and Dutch in the department of European Languages and Cultures. He studied modern and contemporary history of Germany (Master of Arts) at the University of Amsterdam. He focused on German-Scandinavian cultural and political relations. He took elective courses in German and Scandinavian literary studies. In his thesis, he analysed images of national and regional identity in German and Danish newspapers from the time of the First German-Danish War in 1848. He studied these identity issues in the context of emerging nationalism and national revolutions throughout Europe. During his studies in Scandinavian Languages and Cultures (Bachelor of Arts) and German Language and Culture (Bachelor of Arts), Tim was already interested in the history of identity in the German-Danish border region.
