Dr. Ir. Thomas Bortolotti is an Assistant Professor in Operations Management in the Department of Operations, University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

He holds a master’s degree in Industrial and Management Engineering (cum laude) from University of Udine, Italy.

He holds a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from University of Bergamo, Italy, in collaboration with SDA Bocconi and MIT-Zaragoza logistics center.

In 2012-2014 he worked as post-doctoral researcher at University of Padova, University of Udine and CUOA Business School, Vicenza (Italy).

In 2014-2017 he worked as a Senior Lecturer in Operations Management in the School of Management, Swansea University (UK).

He is the UK leader of the "High Performance Manufacturing" (HPM) international research project.

His research interests include Lean Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Service Operations. He has expertise with several empirical research methods, in particular Structural Equation Modelling and case study. 

His work has been published in a range of academic journals including: International Journal of Operations & Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Industrial Management & Data Systems and Production Planning & Control.

He received the Emerald Highly Commended Paper Award at the P&OM 2016 Conference (Havana, Cuba), the World P&OM Conference Best Paper Award at the P&OM 2012 Conference (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and the Best Paper Award at the APMS 2009 Conference (Bordeaux, France).

He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA) and an annual member of the Production Operations Management Society (POMS).
