Sophia Salziger is a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen. Since October 2022, she has been researching for her PhD on non-material damage in the event of data protection violations within the Transboundary Legal Studies and Private Law Departments under the supervision of prof. dr. Jeanne Mifsud Bonnici and prof. mr. dr. Albert Verheij.

Sophia studied Law in Context - Law in the International Context of Technology, Politics and Economy at Dresden University of Technology in Germany, and holds an LL.M. in Global Criminal Law and an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from the University of Groningen. The title of her lastest thesis was Crime prediction based on algorithms in the criminal justice system: Challenges from practical, ethical, and societal perspectives in light of the right to a fair trial.

Alongside her studies, she gained practical experience in implementing the GDPR in a small company, working for NGOs in human rights advocacy and for the state parliament in press review.
