S. (Sabina) Rosenbergová, PhD

Sabina Rosenbergova is an Assistant Professor of Cultural Heritage at the University of Groningen, based at Campus Fryslân. She is a heritage scholar whose work looks at how objects, spaces and histories take on new meanings as they move across time and institutions: what gets lost, what gets (re)invented, and how this shapes the way the past is understood and displayed today. She sees heritage as a way of asking which pasts we carry forward and what futures they make possible.
Since 2024, she has held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Centre for Religion and Heritage, Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society. Her project, "Transformation of Female Religious Spaces and Objects into Modern Museum Contexts," combines art history, museum studies and heritage studies with a gender perspective. It examines how the heritage of women's religious communities has been reframed, and often obscured, through its integration into modern museums.
Sabina is co-founder and co-coordinator of the Netherlands Chapter of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS). The chapter builds cooperation among critical heritage scholars in the Netherlands and connects them to the ACHS's international network, with an emphasis on supporting early career researchers.
She received a joint PhD in Art History in 2023 from Sapienza University of Rome and Masaryk University in Brno, with a dissertation reappraising tenth-century art and culture in Rome. During her doctoral research, she was a pre-doctoral fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome (2021–2022), a visiting scholar at the City University of New York (2022), and a researcher on the MSCA Horizon project "Conques in the Global World". Her research has taken her to Italy, Czechia, France and the United States.
