Prof. dr. Robbert Sanderman
Robbert Sanderman was trained as a clinical psychologist and has a registration as qualified clinician. He got his PhD in 1988. In 1999, he became full professor in Health Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine and at the Faculty of Psychology. His research is focused on psychological and social adaptive processes in patients diagnosed with a chronic somatic disease (e.g. cancer, diabetes, heart failure and COPD). Apart from studying the development of quality of life and psychological mechanisms in adjustment over time, he is involved in studies testing the efficacy of psychosocial interventions aimed at restoring quality of life among certain groups of patients.
Robbert Sanderman is the past president of the European Health Psychology Society.
Since 2013 and until his retirement in 2020, he has also been a full Professor of Health Psychology & Head of the Health Psychology Department at the University of Twente.
