Prof. dr. Robbert Sanderman

Robbert Sanderman was trained as a clinical psychologist and has a registration as qualified clinician. He got his PhD in 1988. In 1999 he became full professor in Health Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine and at the Faculty of Psychology. His research is focused on psychological and social adaptive processes in patients diagnosed with a chronic somatic disease (e.g. cancer, diabetes, heartfailure and COPD). Apart from studying the development of quality of life and psychological mechanisms in adjustment over time, he is involved in studies testing the efficacy of psychosocial interventions aimed at restoring quality of life among certiain groups of patients. 

Robbert Sanderman is the past president of the European Health Psychology Society and an active member of the Scientific committee of the Consumer Quality-Index in the Netherlands (Stichting Klanttevredenheid in de zorg).

Since 2013, he is also full Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Twente (Dept. of Psychology, Health & Technology)-(Health Psychology Section).

Among others he was vice-chair of the board of the psychosocial scientific committee of the Dutch Cancer Society; Past president of the Dutch Behavioral Medicine Federation; Past president of the Dutch Society of Psychosocial Oncology; Chair of the Board of the Research Institute of Psychology and Health.
