prof. dr. R.R. Nauta
I studied Classics and Theory of Literature at the Universities of Groningen, Leiden (where I received my PhD) and Constance. After teaching for eight years at the Free University in Berlin, I was appointed in 1997 to the Chair of Latin in Groningen, where from 1998 to 2006 and 2014 to 2016 I was also Head of the Classics Department.
My research is on Latin literature of the Late Republic and Early Empire, esp. poetry, from the perspective of both literary history (i.a. patronage, panegyric, civil war) and literary theory (i.a. genre, poetic I, metalepsis). Articles in progess are about i.a. the dating of Calpurnius Siculus, the proem of Lucan's Bellum Ciuile, clementia in Latin epic.
After a period of illness, as of September 2012 I work for 60%.
In the first term of the academic year 2016-17 I am not working, due to reasons of health.
