mr. dr. R.L. (Rianne) Herregodts

Rianne Herregodts is an associate professor at the department of Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Public Administration. She is an expert in the regulation of professions, more specifically in disciplinary law. Within this field, she is particularly interested in disciplinary law as a quality instrument for professional groups, harmonisation of disciplinary systems and the procedural framework, and the position of professional organisation established under public law.

Since the publication of her thesis on disciplinary law for accountants, doctors and lawyers in 2019, she frequently publishes about topics within the field of disciplinary law. Rianne is the initiator and editor of the handbook on Dutch disciplinary systems (2022). More recent publications include the evaluation of the disciplinary system for healthcare professionals (2025), a report on supervision and complaints mechanisms for attorneys (2025), and an evaluation of the disciplinary system for bank employees (2024).

Rianne works as a deputy judge at the district court of the Northern Netherlands. She is also a member of the Committee for Academic Integrity of the RUG, Noorderrecht and the Internationalisationcommittee of the Faculty of Law.

Before she joined the University of Groningen, Rianne was an attorney (advocaat) and a legal counsel
