Expertise
My doctoral research is a Qualitative study which focuses on reproductive justice for women with disabilities in the Kalangala Islands of Uganda. I’m particularly interested in how intersecting factors—like gender, type of disability, poverty, and geographic isolation—shape these women’s capabilities to access reproductive health knowledge and services, and how these intersections affect their ability to achieve justice. Through my study, I explore the concept of autonomy not as an abstract or individualistic ideal, but as something profoundly shaped by social and environmental conditions. In communities like Kalangala, where structural barriers and cultural dynamics intersect, autonomy and access to reproductive justice take on very different meanings. I use intersectionality, feminist philosophy, and the capabilities approach to see that justice is more than access; it also requires the freedom to make informed choices and act on them. My work aims to bring forward the voices and lived experiences of women with disabilities, and to rethink what reproductive justice looks like in marginalized, under-researched contexts
