Michiel H.W. Hooiveld is staff advisor at the Research Office, UMCG. Michiel studied Medical Biology at Radboud University, Nijmegen, and obtained his PhD in Developmental Biology at the Hubrecht Institute, Utrecht University, in 1999. After his graduation he became policy advisor/project manager at the Council for Medical Sciences (Raad voor Medische Wetenschappen), Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), in Amsterdam. In 2002, Michiel moved to Groningen and joined the Faculty of Medical Sciences/UMCG to become policy advisor at the Junior Scientific Masterclass (JSM), a stimulation program providing medical students interested in doing scientific research extra opportunities in addition to their regular degree programme. In 2011, Michiel was appointed staff advisor at the Research Office where he provides support to the research institutes Brain and Cognition (neurosciences) and Cancer Research Center Groningen (oncology), the Research School of Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN), the U4 University Network Medicine & Pharmacy ('Ageing Brain' and 'Public Health') and the dean of research. His activities include supporting of and writing (strategic) policy documents, MTR and SEP reports, and supporting grant and (re)accreditation application procedures. Feb. 2019, he was appointed part-time as liaison officer/policy officer for the Data Science Center in Health (DASH) team, UMCG. He is also member of the begeleidingscommissie International Student Congress of Medical Sciences (ISCOMS). On project basis, he provides/provided support to UMCG-wide projects, like the leading coalitions ‘ISO Certification’ (Nov. 2014 - Dec. 2015) and ‘Prestatiefinanciering’ (Nov. 2017 - Jan. 2019).
