Margaret Finlay is a PhD Candidate at the University of Groningen. She obtained a B.A. with Honours in English Literature (2020) at Acadia University (Canada) and an M.A. in Medieval Literature and Languages (2021, Distinction) at the University of York (U.K.). Her research focus is predominantly on late medieval romance, particularly Arthurian literature.

At the University of Groningen, she has taught King Arthur, Romance, and Empire, Reading Early English and English for Academic Purposes: Research Reports. She has presented guest lectures on gender and identity politics in medieval literature at Acadia University, and taught on a first year Medieval Literature class at Cardiff University (U.K.).

Margaret Finlay's first article, '"A noble knyght and a myghty man": Gareth as Disruptive Presence and Absence in Malory’s Morte Darthur' (Arthuriana: 34.4, 2024), was initially presented as the Inaugural Fiona Tolhurst Lecture at the Symposium for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in St. Louis, Missouri (U.S.A.). Her second article, 'Named and Stolen Swords: Gawain as Worthy Heir in the Alliterative Morte Arthure’ (Arthuriana: 36.1) won the 2025 Fair Unknown Award at International Congress of Medieval Studies (Kalamazoo, Michigan, U.S.A.).
