dr. L. (Liesbet) Heyse

Associate Professor of Sociology (with ius promovendi)

Short bio

Liesbet Heyse works at the Department of Sociology/ICS since 2007.

Heyse studied Public Administration at Leiden University, the Netherlands (1991-1996) and obtained a Master’s degree in Political Science at Boston University, USA (1997). She wrote her dissertation on decision-making processes in humanitarian aid NGOs at the Department of Public Administration at Leiden University, the Netherlands (1997-2002). From 2002 to 2007, she worked as an assistant professor at the Sociology department of Twente University, the Netherlands. From mid 2005 to mid 2017 she taught in the International Master of Humanitarian Action and was conntect the Network of Humanitarian Action (NOHA).

Heyse is editorial board member of Risk, Hazards and Crisis in Public Policy and was assistant editor of the Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management (1999-2002). She participated in evaluation assignments for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999, 2006) as well as for the United Nations Development Program (2001/2002). In 2006 and 2007, she was an EU Erasmus Mundus Visiting Scholar to the Monash Asian Institute of Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. In 2015, she provided training to the Department of Stabilisation and Humanitarian Aid of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
