J. (Jasperina) Brouwer, PhD

Jasperina Brouwer combines an interdisciplinary background in the social, health, educational, and cultural sciences with clinical experience as a nurse. Her research focuses on the professionalization and academization of nursing by examining the social mechanisms that shape professional development, workforce retention (NWO Veni), and the production and use of professional knowledge. She also investigates how healthcare innovations and changing models of care delivery, particularly in the context of informal care (ZonMw Vidi), influence professional identity, collaboration, and career development. Her work draws on qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research, with particular expertise in longitudinal social network analysis. It is further informed by an interest in the social and philosophical foundations of care, including power, leaderships, agency, and epistemic diversity within interprofessional practice.
