Research interests
DVM, MSc. Juan Isaac Chávez Corona
I am a veterinarian and researcher with a background in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). My academic and research activities focus on biomaterials, nanomedicine, and advanced drug delivery systems, with applications in both human and veterinary medicine.
During my academic training, I gained extensive experience in laboratory animal science and preclinical research. This expertise provided the foundation for designing and evaluating innovative therapeutic strategies aimed at improving the efficacy, safety, and clinical applicability of pharmaceuticals. My work has particularly focused on nanotechnology-based delivery systems for protein therapeutics and their translational potential.
As part of my MSc in Animal Production and Health Sciences at UNAM, I contributed to the development and evaluation of insulin-loaded liposomal formulations for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Using experimental Wistar rat models, this research explored novel approaches for controlled insulin delivery with potential applications in clinical veterinary practice.
My current research interests lie at the intersection of biomaterials, nanomedicine, drug delivery, and regenerative technologies, with a particular emphasis on the development of innovative therapeutic platforms for chronic and metabolic diseases.
Currently, I am a PhD Candidate in the Department of Biomaterials at the University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), enrolled in a dual-degree doctoral program leading to a PhD from the University of Groningen and a Doctor en Ciencias degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Through my research, I aim to contribute to the development of innovative biomaterials and advanced drug delivery systems, facilitating the translation of fundamental research into clinical applications in both human and veterinary medicine. My overarching goal is to advance therapeutic innovation while promoting health, welfare, and translational impact.
