Early Modern Irish Writing in English

This project is based on the less-well-known Irish Early Modern literature written in English. It sets aside the writing of famous colonists such as Spenser and focuses instead on English works written by writers who were born in or who lived most of their lives in Ireland. This builds on my work on The Works of Walter Quin: An Irishman at the Stuart Courts (Four Courts Press, 2014).

Renaissance Representations of Biblical Women

This follows from my book Representations of Eve in Antiquity and the English Middle Ages (Routledge, 2011) and from my PhD on Eve in the early modern period.

The Sources and Analogues of Paradise Lost

While many of the important sources and analogues of Paradise Lost are readily available there are many texts that are either difficult to consult or are as yet untranslated into English. This project will gather together the full texts of works that can shed light on Milton's epic and present them in annotated English translations.
