Education

Ph.D. (University of Amsterdam; Febr.1991-Dec.1996). J.A. Kuivenhoven started on a project with the objective ‘To characterize genetic factors which underlie low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels and premature atherosclerosis’ (grant of Netherlands Heart Foundation). This work was performed in the laboratory of Prof. J.W. ten Cate, and Dr. J.J.P. Kastelein in the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam and in the laboratory of Prof. J.J. Frohlich and Prof. P.H. Pritchard at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada). He defended his thesis entitled 'Genetic factors contributing to HDL cholesterol levels' on December 3rd 1996 at the University of Amsterdam.
