The PhD research project is focused on the relation between uncertainty and regional mobility systems. Specifically, a systematic literature study will be conducted on what adaptive capacity is and how it can be enabled. The call for adaptive capacity is increasing, since our growing awareness of possible uncertainties (technological, economic, political and social). This makes it increasingly difficult to make decisions regarding infrastructure investments. Meanwhile, such investments are highly necessary because of the stress on the infrastructure network and sustainability goals. Adaptive capacity could help to break this deadlock by creating possibilities for innovative solutions. This research aims to identify which conditions are needed to enable this. Hereby focussing on Urban Accessibility Programmes in the Netherlands whilst using qualitative research methods.
