I.C. (Ilse) van Dijk

My PhD project is primarily about Indigenous experiences with climate change and Indigenous responses to climate change, through a case study in southern Vancouver Island with contacts mainly in W̱SÁNEĆ First Nation. I explore the cultural consequences of climate change, in the context of the colonial legacy. I explore Indigenous responses to climate change, but also recognize the value that Indigenous resurgence activities can have for climate action as they reconnect communities to their lands and waters. I emphasize the importance of Indigenous ways of knowing and Indigenous involvement in climate action.
