prof. dr. G.J.W. (Gert-Jan) Euverink

Gerrit Jan Willem Euverink (1966) finished his PhD in microbiology/ biochemistry in 1995 at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. From October 1994 untill May 1998 he was a post-doctoral researcher at the Dutch Institute for Carbohydrate research (NIKO-TNO) were he discovered a new enzymatic derivative of starch. In 1998 he started a high-throughput screening laboratory in the department of Microbial Physiology at the University of Groningen and applied robot technology for the screening of new biocatalysts. He was involved in several national and EU-funded research projects with universites and chemical industries.

In 2004 he became deputy scientific director of Wetsus, Centre for sustainable Water Technology in Leeuwarden. He is the program director of the research of Wetsus. This multidisciplinary program is carried out in cooperation with universities and companies. In 2007 Wetsus was acknowledged by the Ministery of Economical Affairs as a Technological Top Institute Watertechnology. He is involved in the supervision of master students, PhD students and post-docs. In November 2011 he was appointed by the Universiy of Groningen.
