dr. E. (Edin) Smailhodzic

Edin Smailhodžić received a Master in Business Administration (Small Business & Entrepreneurship), Research Master in Economics and Business (Cum Laude), and a PhD from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. During his PhD, he was also a visiting PhD scholar at McGill University in Canada. Prior to his academic career, Edin held various positions in international development organizations.
He is currently the Program Coordinator of the MSc Business Administration profile in Change Management at the University of Groningen. Edin is passionate about understanding how people and organizations use digital technologies to create meaningful change. His research focuses on the real-world impact of these technologies, especially in healthcare and the Global South, where digital transformation can bridge gaps, empower communities, and transform systems. By studying how individuals and organizations adapt to tools like social media and AI, Edin seeks to uncover practical insights that drive equitable, sustainable, and human-centered digital transformation.
Edin’s work has been published in leading journals in information systems, business and healthcare, including Information Systems Journal, Journal of Business Research, Social Science & Medicine, BMC Health Services Research and Journal of Healthcare Leadership. Additionally, he has acted as Associate Editor and presented his research at top Information Systems conferences, such as the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS).
