E.A. (Euan) Young, MSc

PhD student interested in how an evolutionary perspective can inform our understanding of human health and disease and how humans themselves can be used as a model for understanding fundamental evolutionary processes.

Currently, I am examining how well evolutionary theories of ageing apply to humans and if they can be used to explain the genetics of certain human diseases in modern societies. I have also used human genealogy data to examine to what extent the number of children had and their survival can shape a person's genetic contribution to the gene pool after many generations (which was recently published here).

To this end, I am using an array of analytical approaches (e.g. mixed effect and structural equation modelling), along with quantitative genetics supported by data from Finnish and Swiss genealogies and contemporary biobanks.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me at e.a.young@rug.nl. I am always happy to collaborate on interesting projects!
