D. (Danica) Petrovic, MSc

Danica Petrović is an architect and currently a PhD researcher at the University of Groningen, Center for Media and Journalism Studies. She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg, awarded through a DAAD scholarship, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Belgrade. Her Master's thesis analyzed the architectural and socio-political legacy of the L’Aiglon cinema and hotel complex in Berlin-Wedding. It was awarded the 2024 Student Prize by the Berlin Heritage Authority (Landesdenkmalamt Berlin). For her contributions to architectural research, she was recognized by the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel as one of the "100 Intellectuals of the Capital of Science" in 2024.
From 2020 to 2022, Danica worked as a student assistant at the Institute of Archaeology in Belgrade on the PROMIS-funded project MoDeCo2000, where she supported a research on Roman mortars along the Danube Limes in Serbia. She joined the DFG-funded research project Buildings of the Occupation Period in West Germany (1945–1955) at BTU Cottbus–Senftenberg, where she worked as a research assistant from 2022 to 2023. Throughout her education, Danica has been the recipient of multiple scholarships in recognition of her academic and professional achievements. Her architectural work has been exhibited at several well-regarded exhibitions across Europe. In parallel with her academic pursuits, Danica has gained practical experience through her work on conservation and restoration projects involving listed buildings under the protection of national and regional heritage authorities in Serbia, Montenegro, and Germany.
Danica is a member of the Society of Conservators of Serbia and represents the Emerging Professionals Working Group of ICOMOS Germany. In this capacity, she collaborates with a team of young experts to develop and coordinate international workshops for early-career scholars and practitioners, addressing pressing global challenges in heritage preservation.
