Expertise
Dr. Carol X. Garzón López is an assistant professor in Earth and Environmental sciences at the multidisciplinary faculty Campus Fryslân. She is a colombian researcher and the director of Verde Elemental, a website in Spanish, dedicated to promoting and disseminating knowledge in ecology and conservation for Latin America. Her expertise lies in the application of spatial ecology tools to gain insights and monitor biodiversity at multiple scales. Her current work as part of Campus Fryslân, and in particular as part of the Department of Knowledge Infrastructures, focuses on the critical exploration and development of knowledge infrastructures for biodiversity. This has expanded her research towards interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, working on how social factors shapes what and how we know about biodiversity.
Carol is interested in three main themes: the maintenance and exploration of biodiversity across space, time and knowledge systems; the dynamics of the nature-culture nexus and; the relevance of science communication for livable futures.
Keywords: Spatial ecology, remote sensing (UAV, hyperspectral, satellite), biodiversity, invasive species, knowledge infrastructures, FOSS.
