Quantification in Molecular Diagnostics & Radionuclide Therapy

Professor Dr. Ir. Charalampos (Harry) Tsoumpas joined the University of Groningen in 2021 as Full Professor of Quantification in Molecular Diagnostics & Radionuclide Therapy, affiliated with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the University Medical Center Groningen. He is a Vici Laureate (2025–2030), recipient of one of the most prestigious and competitive research grants awarded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

Before his current appointment, he served as Lecturer in Medical Imaging at the University of Leeds, UK, within the Department of Biomedical Imaging Science (2013–2021). He obtained his PhD from Imperial College London in 2008 with a thesis titled "Direct Statistical Parametric Image Estimation for Linear Pharmacokinetic Models from Quantitative Positron Emission Tomography Measurements". From 2008 to 2013, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at King’s College London, where he focused on the development of PET-MRI technologies.

He holds a BSc in Physics (specialisation in Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics) from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering (specialisation in Biomedical Electronics and Informatics) from the National Technical University of Athens.

Professor Tsoumpas has authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, 50 conference papers, 150 conference abstracts, four book chapters, and holds three international patents.
