A. (Anna) Salzano, MA MSc
My current work in training and coaching at the University of Groningen stems from my longstanding interest in personal and human experience, on the one hand, and professional work in organizations, on the other. Throughout my career I have explored these subjects through study and work.
Originally from Rome, I obtained a master’s degree (Laurea) in Russian and English literature from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. I then moved to New York, where I undertook postgraduate work in History as a Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University, completing an MA in 1999. Later that year I took a position as researcher and editor for the Columbia University Center for New Media Teaching and Learning, supporting developers in creating new media tools for research and learning. Inspired by this experience, I moved to Seattle in 2005 to start a masters of science in information management at the University of Washington.
My first work in information management was at Getty Images in Seattle. In 2011 I moved to Munich to work as a manager at Amazon, where I hired and oversaw a large team of over 30 members, who were scattered around the globe. As a result of having lived in Italy, the US, Ireland, and Germany, I am comfortable navigating across diverse professional and national cultures.
Since coming to Groningen in 2016, I have worked as a program manager at the CIT and the UMCG. In 2021, I became a NOBCO-certified Coach. In the same year, I joined HR to work as trainer and coach of academic staff at the University of Groningen. I have developed an on-line training course to help professors become better supervisors of their PhDs, utilizing techniques and values that I also apply in my coaching practice.
