Life Science & Technology

How do biological molecules like proteins and DNA function? What vital roles do organic and inorganic molecules play in our bodies? Can you use biotechnology to improve the production of food, enzymes, and medicine? What is the physics behind an electron microscope?

During the Bachelor's program in Life Science & Technology (LS&T), you will learn how to answer questions of this kind. By combining the disciplines of biology, chemistry, physics, and technology, LS&T students learn how to use insights from these fields to study complex systems that they will deal with in their science careers. From learning about the physics of movement to studying processes in living organisms, or seeing how to improve the environment.

About the web class

This web class will introduce you to the various aspects of the bachelor degree LS&T by applying the various subjects to one specific topic; the coronavirus. In the first week you will learn about the cell biological process of transcription and translation, and how virus hijacks this process. In the second week, we will go more in depth into the biochemical aspects of the translation machinery. Week three concerns the physics behind (fluorescence) microscopy, techniques used to study viruses. In the last week you will work on one on the most important skills; reading and analyzing research papers.

Registration autumn edition

The autumm edition of the web classes will take place from 17 November - 14 December 2025.
Registration via this site starts on Monday 13 October 2025 at 10:00 (CEST).
