History

History provides you with a broad view on the past in order to give insights into our modern-day world. How did our society develop? How did this development go in other parts of the world? During the first three weeks, another historical time period and approach will be discussed every week. In the last week, you’ll be asked to write an essay. The assignment you hand in every week will be checked and graded by the tutor. The time periods that we’ll pay attention to in the web class are The Ancient World, The Early-modern Time and The Modern Time.

Web class

This webclass provides you with a good overview of what the first year of the History major will be like. You’ll learn what it means to go to lectures, how to interpret texts, and how to answer difficult questions. During the major, you’ll gain other skills, like interviewing, doing archive research and doing library research, as well. During the first three weeks of the web class, another historical time period and approach will be discussed every week. In the last week, you’ll be asked to write an essay. You’ll have to hand in the assignments every week, these will be corrected by your webclass teacher. The time periods that we’ll pay attention to are The Ancient World, The Early-modern Time and The Modern Time. Besides that, you’ll learn to work with Dutch and English literature, and you’ll take an online lecture (on a time picked by you!).
