Special evening in the Groninger Forum: Power & Energy: resources, conflicts and geo-politics

On Thursday 21 August 2014, the Groningen Energy Summer School presents a special evening on the geopolitics of energy, hosted by Daan de Wit (DeepJournal). Two speakers present their views and engage in discussion with the host and the audience.

Central questions

  • What is the role of energy in the conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya en Syria?
  • What is at stake in Ukraine and to what extent are ongoing actions aimed at Russia and China?
  • What are the respective interests of secret services, big corporations and governments in relation to energy?

William Engdahl

American political economist specializing for more than thirty years in geopolitical analysis of global events. Author of the international best-selling book on oil and geopolitics, A Century of War: Anglo-American Oil Politics . He wrote several other works, the latest of which is Myths, Lies and Oil Wars . He is an international speaker and a regular contributor to news shows. Watch him in this report (5’20), as broadcast on Dutch public television, on the hidden background behind the color revolutions, such as the first Orange Revolution in Ukraine. In Groningen he will speak about the recent second Orange Revolution.

Willem Middelkoop

Co-founder and researcher for the Commodity Discovery Fund. Has a background as a financial journalist and authored five best selling books: De Big Reset, Goud en het geheim van geld, Overleef de kredietcrisis, De permanente oliecrisis, Als de dollar valt. Middelkoop shared his views in popular talk shows such as De Wereld Draait Door and Pauw en Witteman and keeps a constant finger on the pulse of current affairs, sharing his facts and views in an active timeline on Twitter.

Daan de Wit

Journalist specializing in the news behind the news on his website DeepJournal, featuring geopolitical analysis, uncovering what was hidden for the follower of the main stream media. He wrote De Volgende Oorlog, with over 1500 footnotes and uncovered the story of secret contracts and experimental vaccines in his book Dossier Mexicaanse Griep. He is currently working on a book that shows, based on the latest research and contrary to official advice and popular believe, what is healthy food and why. Also De Wit is active on Twitter.
