Ameland PhD Workshop 2011

Ph.D. Network Workshop, 19 - 24 June 2011 "Materials for Energy" d'Amelander Kaap, Hollum, Ameland

The Dutch Materials Research Schools, MESA+-Twente, Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials-Groningen,  IMM-Nijmegen are organizing a workshop entitled “Materials for Energy" for Ph.D.-students in materials research. The workshop will be held on the island of Ameland (The Netherlands) from 19 June - 24 June 2011.

The workshop is sponsored by the PhD-network from the participating institutions, but is open to all who are interested. The participant fee is Euro 700 and includes all accommodation and meals, but excludes drinks as well as dinner on Sunday. The fee needs to be paid upon confirmation of participation. The fee of participants from the organizing institutions (MESA+, Zernike, IMM) will be paid directly by these institutions. You should therefore make sure to register with the correct affiliation.

Deadline for subscription is now extended to May 25th. Deadline abstract June 1st!!

The number of places is limited. Acceptance of registration is based on the order of date of submission. So register as soon as possible. Members from the 3 Reseach Schools have priority over other participants.

Scope

The theme “Materials for Energy” covers a broad interdisciplinary field within physics and chemistry. International experts will give tutorials and stimulate discussions on a large range of topics going from solar cells (in many of their different forms) till bio-mass and hydrogen production. All these different topics are connected by the fact to be at the forefront of research in Material Science.

The final aim will be to stimulate awareness in young scientist and PhD students of the challenges for materials in the energy field.

The workshop will consist of lectures, tutorials, and additional discussions. Active participation by the PhD students is expected, including the presentation of a poster about their own research (not necessarily coinciding with the topic of the workshop). The lecturers are explicitly asked to give tutorial presentations with emphasis on the basic understanding of their subject, which culminates in their view on the present day understanding and challenges of their specific topic.
