Introduction

The TRIµP group uses precision experiments at lower energies to study fundamental interactions and symmetries. Therefore, the particles used in experiments are cooled to below mK temperatures and stored in atom traps which are essentially formed by six laser beams, which pairwise counterpropagate in all three directions of space. Alternatively the particles can be stored in a radiofrequency (Paul) trap where a properly designed radiofrequency quadrupole field makes it possible to store them.
