UMD Catalyst Grant: Maaike Oosterveer
Liver disease, in particular hepatic tumorigenesis, represent a serious long-term complication in adult patients suffering from Glycogen Storage Disease type 1a (GSD Ia). Current dietary management primarily aims to prevent life-threatening hypoglycemia, and does generally not prevent liver disease. It is therefore critical to explore novel therapeutic strategies.
In this collaborative and preclinical research project Dr. Maaike Oosterveer (UMCG Laboratory of Pediatrics) and Prof. Dr. Riekelt Houtkooper (AMC Laboratory of Genetic Metabolic Diseases) will investigate the impact of dietary supplementation on development of liver disease in GSD Ia.
