Workshop: Speak to Change - A strategic model for transformative presentations, Thursday 12 October

Workshop: Speak to Change - A strategic model for transformative presentations

Thursday 12-10-2023, 1 p.m. - 4.30 p.m, Bladergroenzaal, University of Groningen Library

Research is meant to make the world a better place.
But that only happens when people start acting upon it. Just informing does not lead to change.
If you want your research to have impact, you must learn how to influence and activate people so your presentations become transformative.

About the workshop
In this workshop you will learn the three steps that will move your presentations from informative to transformative.
1. Setting a clear ambition for action;
2. Exploring your audiences attitude towards your ambition;
3. Designing the steps that will bring your audience towards your ambition.
You will learn to make a pain and gain analysis for your audience.
You will learn to work with the colour model (Jung, Disc, Insights). This will help you to understand the perspective of your audience and design the roadblocks for your presentation.
In the workshop you can work with your own presentationplan, so you can leave the workshop with  a roadmap for your own story.

For whom is the workshop?
This training is for ambitious researchers who want their research to be a driver for change.

Workshop: Storymapping - Engage the public: Building a visual story based on your research, Wednesday 18 October

Workshop: Storymapping - Engage the public: Building a visual story based on your research

Wednesday 18-10-2023, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., Tammeszaal, University of Groningen Library

Engage the public: Building a visual story based on your research
Most researchers have a lot of knowledge and data on their research subjects. In this course we learn and help you to build a visual story based on scientific research. With Storymapping you can give your narrative a stronger sense of place, simply illustrate relationships between places, and add visual examples such as photo’s or video’s to your ideas.

A Storymap from Archeologists Christina Willamson & Alexandra Katevaini (UG/Arts) is available here and another example StoryMap on Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is available here.

Key concepts of storytelling and web-mapping
Participants can expect to learn the key concepts of storytelling and web-mapping in this course. If participants have their own set of maps and other multimedia ready-for-use they can take this with them in the course. If not, we have prepared a challenging set of materials which they can use and experience the full possibilities of Storymapping.

Prerequisits
No prior GIS-experience is needed. The learning goals of this course will be differentiated based on the participant’s skills and participation is free of costs. The course will be held in English.
