Peptide pigments in Science
Pim was part of the research team that investigated the synthesis of a new kind of melanin-like pigments: by ordering short peptides into nanostructures through smart molecular design, one can control the order-to-disorder transition in tyrosine oxidation, leading to biomaterials with different colours and other properties. To celebrate this advance, that promises to be useful in skin care, we all enjoyed a selection of 'brown fruit', a nickname for some Dutch deep-fried snacks.
