Environmental Humanities

In this research group, we study texts and artefacts with a view to uncovering, understanding and re-evaluating the deep historical backgrounds of human interaction with the so-called "more-than-human world". With this approach, we align with a broad movement of scholars in the humanities focusing on current challenges to planetary health caused by anthropogenic impact, including (over)exploitation and destruction of natural or cultural landscapes, fauna and flora extinctions, pollution, resource depletion, et cetera. Group members are affiliated with the RUG-wide Environmental Humanities Network and associated with the Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development.
