Dichters, gitaristen, songwriters, tv-sterren, provocateurs, Riot Grrrls, fashionista's en schrijvers, muzikanten uit het punktijdperk Viv Albertine, Alice Bag, Pauline Black, Carrie Brownstein, Kim Gordon, Nina Hagen, Chrissie Hynde, Patti Smith, Brix Smith Start en Cosey Fanni Tutti zijn baanbrekend in het femoir-genre van autobiografieën. Ze bieden een correctie op jongensstudies van punk als een creatieve praktijk, culturele en politieke beweging. In deze studie onderzoekt M.I. Franklin hoe zij dat doen, als schrijvers, kunstenaars en muzikanten. Kunstenaar Mauricio Escobar biedt een portrettengalerij van de auteur’s.

Poets, Guitarists, Songwriters, TV Stars, Provocateurs, Riot Grrrls, Fashionistas, and writer, punk-era musicians Viv Albertine, Alice Bag, Pauline Black, Carrie Brownstein, Kim Gordon, Nina Hagen, Chrissie Hynde, Patti Smith, Brix Smith Start, and Cosey Fanni Tutti have been breaking new ground in the femoir genre of autobiographies. They provide a corrective to boy-studies of punk as a creative practice, cultural and political movement. In this study M.I. Franklin explores how they do this, as writers, artists and musicians. Artist Mauricio Escobar provides a portrait gallery of the memoirists.

Programme

The event kicks off with some reflections from Malcolm Campbell-Verduyn and a response from the author, Marianne Franklin. A selection of portraits created for the book will be on display with the artist, Mauricio Escobar, responding to any questions about the works. Light refreshments will be served, and copies of the book are available for sale (signed or unsigned).
