Medieval and Early Modern Entangled Communities: A Cross-Disciplinary Dialogue

From:Th 21-11-2024
Until:Fr 22-11-2024
Where:Groningen

Scholars of the late medieval and early modern periods have long emphasised the importance of communities. In studying of kingdoms, empire, urban communities, religious groups, lordships, corporations, guilds, brotherhoods, or families, they have shown that medieval and early modern socio-political organisation rested on a multiplicity of co-existing communities. Building on studies that have addressed their entanglement and co-existence, the workshop aims to establish a cross-disciplinary dialogue that not only draws attention to the variety of community entanglements in medieval and early modern sources, but also reflects on our respective analytic approaches for understanding those entanglements.
