CIRR PhD Colloquium - TIZIANA CORDA: "Sanctions Effectiveness and Veto Players: Uncovering the Role of Domestic Veto Players in Sanctions Effectiveness"

When:Mo 18-05-2020 14:00 - 15:00
Where:Online

This research project aims to investigate how the configuration of veto players in a country targeted by sanctions affects sanctions effectiveness, here understood as the probability of the target country to offer political concessions consistent with the objectives and the logics of the sanctions it has been subjected to.

To reflect the current state of the research, this paper will proceed as follows. After outlining the general premises of the work related to its originality and academic contribution, it presents a brief overview of the relevant literatures which form its main theoretical background, namely the literature on sanctions and the one on veto players analysis, to expose the potential of their interaction. After illustrating some limits of the existing approaches adopted to investigate this interaction, it then introduces a new interpretative framework. Of this framework, it will describe the main aims, variables, and hypotheses. It will conclude by outlining the procedure which operationalizes the framework.

The PhD colloquium is open to all PhDs of the Faculty of Arts. Please contact Francesco Giumelli if you would like to participate in this session.
