Film and Audiovisual Media colloquium - Mariapaola Pierini (University of Turin): The Acting Coach in Contemporary Italian Cinema

A professional figure almost absent from Italian sets until a few years ago, the Acting Coach has rapidly become a fundamental resource in Italian audiovisual productions: from experimental cinema to art-house cinema to serial tv productions. The lecture will examine through a number of cases various forms of coaching (ranging from functionality to creative mediation) that seem to have emerged in contemporary Italian productions. It will also address some methodological assumptions that underlie  the analysis of the material dimension of acting and its processes.
