ENLIGHT grant for inviting dr. Elena Sügis

The Summer School Data Science and AI in Health has received an ENLIGHT grant from the board of the University of Groningen for inviting dr. Elena Sügis, biomedical data scientist and AI educator of the Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu (Estonia) to participate in our summer school. In 2022, dr. Sügis was elected lecturer of the year at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu. She also participated as lecturer in our previous two, online summer schools.


Summer School Data Science and AI in Health, Edition 2023

The Summer School Data Science and AI in Health, Edition 2023, will take place from 16-22 July, 2023, on site, at our beautiful University Medical Center (UMCG) in Groningen, The Netherlands.

Day 5, Summer School Data Science and AI in Health 2022

The final day of our summer school started off with a panel discussion chaired by Bart Scheerder with experts from different domains including Elena Sügis, Stefan Phillips, Mirjam Plantinga and Peter Van Ooijen.

After the panel discussion the participants presented the results of their assignment, showcasing the skills that they have picked up during the course.

The final day of our summer school was concluded with a networking event in Gather.town, where participants were introduced to some innovative companies, such as Novartis, Oro Muscles, Reperio, Researchable and Syntho, and where connections were made.


Day 2, Summer School Data Science and AI in Health 2022

The second day of our Summer School was kicked-off by Peter Van Ooijen with an interactive presentation on the use of the Machine Learning Canvas. His lecture was followed by a lecture of Kerstin Bunte focusing on some typical problems of the use of AI in health followed by some practical tips.

Day 5, Summer School Data Science and AI in Health 2021

Day 5 was the final day of the summer school. It started off with an interactive panel discussion in which all the lecturers of the past week paticipated. Next, each team of participants gave a presentation about their experiences during the summer school. The summer school was concluded with a networking event, in which several companies participated (i.e. Syntho, Oro Muscles, Reperio B.V., Orthopaedia, and a closing ceremony.

Day 4, Summer School Data Science and AI in Health 2021

On Day 4 of the Summer School Data Science and AI in Health Sunyi Zheng, researcher in the fields of artificial intelligence and medical image analysis, gave a presentation on 'Deep learning in lung cancer'. The second speaker on the day, Gabriel Guterres Marmitt, a computational medical physisist at the UMCG Proton Therapy Center, held a presentation on the 'AI use in radiotherapy treatment for lung cancer'.

Day 3, Summer School Data Science and AI in Health 2021

The third day of our Summer School started with an interactive presentation on the 'Risk Factors for COPD' by Marike Boezen. In the afternoon Maaike de Vries held a presentation on 'Big data analysis in pulmonary diseases'.

Day 2, Summer School Data Science and AI in Health 2021

The second day of our Summer School started with an interactive presentation about the Machine Learning Canvas by Peter Van Ooijen. In the afternoon Fenna Feenstra, Lecturer Master Data Science of Life Science at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, told more about a practical guide to data collection and preparation for AI.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer school 'Data Science and AI in Health' is being offered online. In order to get to know all participants a little better, a nice virtual space has been set up at Gather Town. In this way participants can still get coffee together, walk around and have a nice chat. ;)
