PhD Council

Are you already a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen? Find more information on here.

Tasks

The PhD Council of the Faculty of Arts' Graduate School for the Humanities (GSH) has three core tasks:

  1. The PhD Council represents all PhD candidates within the GSH. It consults with the Academic Director of the Graduate School and councils of other Graduate Schools on a regular basis. The PhD Council also represents the interests of PhD candidates towards the Faculty Board.
  2. The PhD Council informs PhD candidates at the GSH on relevant topics; such as the development of the Graduate School, (practical) information for (new) PhD candidates, and opportunities for cooperation at University level.
  3. The PhD Council also has a social function and offers all PhD candidates of the GSH the opportunity to get to know each other by organising informal drinks receptions.

The PhD Council advices prospective PhD candidates to check the website of the Graduate School for the Humanities for official procedures and the job opportunities website at the RUG for current openings.

Workshops

We have designed a series of hands-on workshops to address practical issues that PhD candidates might encounter. All PhD candidates within the Graduate School for the Humanities can participate! You will not only learn new practical skills, but also connect with your fellow PhD students!

Drinks

A few times a year, the PhD Council organizes social events and drinks for all PhD candidates whithin the Graduate School for the Humanities. The events are a nice opportunity to meet your fellow PhD candidates from ICOG, GIA and CLCG! Because we think it is important for you to mingle without worries, we will provide drinks and snacks!
