Gerda van Roozendaal appointed Deputy Director of Globalisation Studies Groningen

As per August 1, 2019, Gerda van Roozendaal has been appointed Deputy Director of Globalisation Studies Groningen (GSG). She has a degree in political science, with a specialization in international relations (University of Amsterdam, 1993). After her graduation, she worked for several research projects in the field of development at the University of Amsterdam. In 2001 she received her Phd from the University of Amsterdam (Amsterdam School for Social Science Research) for her research on the influence of trade unions on the debate related to trade and labour standards. She moved to Curaçao in 2001 where she worked as a researcher, consultant, and as the policy advisor at the Foreign Relations Department of the Dutch Antilles. After returning to the Netherlands in 2005, she worked as an assistant professor at the Department of International Relations and International Organization (IRIO) at the University of Groningen, and since November 2016 as associate professor.

In her work for GSG, she will bring her experience as a researcher with a focus on trade-related policy issues, labour rights and on institutional change. In addition, her work as lecturer on globalisation issues, as a programme director Graduate Studies of the IRIO Master, and as a member of the IRIO Board will form the basis for further developing GSG’s work on development in the context of globalisation.
