MOLGENIS

MOLGENIS is a data platform for researchers to accelerate scientific collaborations and for bioinformaticians who want to make researchers happy.

MOLGENIS helps users find, capture, exchange, manage and analyze scientific data. MOLGENIS is developed within the UMCG by the Genomics Coordination Center (GCC).

MOLGENIS is a modular web application for scientific data. MOLGENIS (originally called 'molecular genetics information system') was born from molecular genetics research. Thanks to many sponsors and contributors, it has since grown to be used in many scientific areas such as biobanking, rare disease research, patient registries and data catalogues. MOLGENIS provides researchers with user friendly scalable software infrastructures to capture, exchange and exploit the large amounts of data being produced by scientific organizations all around the world.

MOLGENIS can be applied in many ways to produce great data solutions, highlights include:

  • UMCG Catalogue : The aim of the UMCG Research Data Catalogue is to increase the visibility of UMCG data and sample resources and thereby stimulate their findability, accessibility and reuse, three major pillars of the FAIR principles.
  • BBMRI-ERIC : The BBMRI-ERIC Directory is a tool that collects and makes information available about biobanks throughout Europe that are willing to share their data and/or samples and to collaborate with other research groups.
  • Genturis registry : The GENTURIS registry is the European registry for patients with one of the genetic tumour risk syndromes (genturis). The registry is affiliated with the European Reference Network for all patients with one of the genetic tumour risk syndromes (ERN GENTURIS).
  • Variant Interpretation Pipeline : VIP is a flexible human variant interpretation pipeline for rare diseases that uses state-of-the-art pathogenicity prediction (CAPICE) and template-based interactive reporting to facilitate decision support.
  • Armadillo : Armadillo is a data portal that allows data stewards to share datasets on a server and researchers to analyze these data, and those shared on other servers, using the DataSHIELD analysis tools.
