Master Programmes

MSc Biology

The two-year Master programme Biology is for students who have a broad interest in biology and also for those who have a specific interest in science at the interface of different biology domains, such as ecology, marine biology, biomedical sciences and molecular biology. Students can focus on fundamental or applied research, or a combination of both. In consultation with a mentor, students design their own study programme tailored to their interests.

MSc Biology

Courses may be selected from those offered by the three research institutions participating in biology education: Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute (GBB), Energy and Sustainability Research Institute Groningen (ESRIG) and Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences (GELIFES).

GELIFES offers the following courses:

This Master programme includes a Science, Business & Policy profile for students that want to focus on the business and policy side of science, and a Research profile. The specialization option Behaviour and Neurosciences combines two specific fields of expertise in biology.

Specialization Behaviour and Neurosciences

The specialisation Behaviour and Neurosciences focuses on various factors influencing the brain and behaviour of humans and animals. Internal factors like the properties of the brain and the secretion of chemical compounds in the blood, and external factors like growth conditions and behaviour of congeners are central in this study. This specialisation has some important similarities with the master programme Biomedical Sciences.
