European Membrane Biology Network

The European Membrane Biology Network (EMBN) is committed to set up common actions in the area of membrane protein expression, functional and structural analysis of membrane proteins, the cell biology of membrane proteins and analyses of membrane proteomes. The EMBN partners will enhance their performances in the education and career development of young scientists in the European Research Area (ERA) and to exchange and disseminate their scientific knowledge and expertise. The EMBN partners actively participate in research initiatives announced by the European Union and other international funding institutions.

EMBN is particularly committed to:

  • Network for education of Master and Ph.D. students as part of the regular framework of their curricula including the definition of resources for education of guest students provided by each party (e.g. lab courses and seminars; ECTS credit point system).
  • Organisation of a yearly international summer school programme, rotating between the centres, with strong participation of all parties.
  • Joined symposia and small scientific meetings
  • Joined set-up of proposals within the different EU-wide funding schemes and identification of national funding programmes for international collaborative research.
  • Timely development and evaluation of joined research themes to be promoted with emphasis on basic research.
  • Joined use of technical infrastructures provided by each centre for enhanced synergies in basic research.

Accession of further partners to the network will be decided by the parties representatives, who will form a Steering Group. This will include further centres or working groups of proven excellence and consortia.
