Abstract

The subject of this thesis concerns the SPH1299(Q) pump used for Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography, a separation method for liquid samples. The SPH1299(Q) delivers a maximum pressure of 1300 bar and flow of 2 ml/min and is developed at Spark Holland B.V., a supplier of analytical systems. The SPH1299(Q) includes four(two) pumps, which work in a couple, consisting of a primary and secondary pump. These pumps consist of an actuator that moves a piston inside a pump head. At this high pressure, solvents, for example, water or methanol, are compressed and compensated using automatic compression compensation. Specifically, a pressure sensor is used to measure the pressure inside the pump head. Nowadays, this sensor is welded upon the pump head. The production process for the pump head, including the pressure sensor, causes problems because it is long and difficult to plan. This thesis involves a new concept for pressure measurement in between the check valves of the primary pump head. The new concept results in a detachable pressure sensor and a divided production process into two components. Namely, the production process of the pump head and production process of the pressure sensor. However, the new concept involves more internal volume than the current system. Therefore the new concept with the increased internal volume is analysed using 20-sim.
