Title: "The financial feasibility of EGRplus - an analysis of the operational potential of combined gas and heat extraction in the Roden field".
With depleting gas fields and an increasing strive for more sustainable energy resources conventional gas recovery is under pressure. As global gas dependability will continue for some time, the goal of total sustainability can be reached by taking small steps at a time. One of these small steps or intermediate solutions could be provided by EGRplus. EGRplus (Enhanced Gas Recovery plus) combines the prolonged conventional extraction of gas in depleting fields with heat recovery by injecting water in the reservoir. This thesis embarks on the research of H. Hofmann where he examines the (technical) potential of EGRplus. In this expansion is aimed at analysing the financial feasibility of this innovative solution. It addresses the benefits of the prolonged gas recovery in otherwise ‘lost’ (and depreciated) fields combined with the additional incomes of heat. It specifically analyses various scenarios for the Roden field but a general financial model is developed as well, enabling the assessment of EGRplus in other fields too. The results show to what extent the (extra) investment in EGRplus (for the Roden field) is a beneficial venture or where optimization and cost reduction should and could take place.
