Unifocus video: Innovation makes wastewater treatment more sustainable and cheaper

04 February 2015

Chemical engineers at the University of Groningen have developed a cost-saving, energy-efficient innovation for water authorities. The addition of coal dust makes sewage sludge easier to de-water and generates biomass that can be used as fuel. This will enable water authorities to save up to a few million euros a year. Wetterskip Fryslân in Heerenveen is currently running a large-scale test with the new working method.
