ENTEG researchers secure TKI-Energie funding for sustainable graphite production from waste plastics

ENTEG researchers, together with BioBTX, Teijin Europe, ISPT, and Hanze University of Applied Sciences, have successfully secured a €630,000 grant from TKI-Energie (Energy InnovationNL). Of this amount, €220,000 is designated for the University of Groningen.

The project focuses on addressing Europe’s reliance on imported graphite, a critical material for clean technology and industrial applications. By leveraging the BioBTX Integrated Cascading Catalytic Pyrolysis process, the team aims to develop and optimize the production of graphite from sidestreams. 

The Green Chemical Reaction Engineering group, led by Prof. Peter J. Deuss, will play a key role in characterizing and converting carbon streams into mesophase carbon and graphitic materials suitable for carbon fiber applications.
