09 October 2023

This past weekend, Prof dr. Ajay Kottapalli actively participated in the 'Weekend van de Wetenschap.' At the Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen, he captivated audiences with a fascinating presentation on his research into the whiskers of seals and how these incredible adaptations are utilized by seals to catch fish. In addition to explaining the science behind seal whiskers, Kottapalli also shared insights into his discoveries made in this field. He highlighted the applications these discoveries have, showcasing the practical implications of his research.

Children had a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of seals and experience firsthand how these whiskers function via the 3D printed whisker demos. They got to explore what it might feel like to have such sensory whiskers themselves, gaining a deeper understanding of the remarkable ways in which seals navigate their underwater environment.

Kottapalli's engaging talks not only shed light on the wonders of seal whiskers but also provided an interactive and educational experience for all participants, making it a standout event during the 'Weekend van de Wetenschap.'
