Jiayu Wang awarded MSCA postdoctoral fellowship for aircraft noise reduction research
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jiayu Wang has been awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship as part of the five fellowships granted to UG/UMCG in the 2025 European Commission call.
Dr. Wang’s project, SiLeNT (Silent Flight Enabled by Topological Acoustofluidic Metasurfaces), focuses on developing topological acoustofluidic metasurfaces—engineered surfaces that combine topological protection with tailored aeroacoustic control—to achieve broadband low-frequency noise reduction under aircraft-relevant conditions. His research explores how topological acoustofluidics can unite robust wave manipulation with aerodynamic flow control, guiding acoustic energy along protected pathways to suppress noise-inducing shear-layer instabilities. This approach addresses noise at its source, rather than merely treating its symptoms, offering a more effective alternative to conventional liners.
Under the supervision of Prof. Anastasiia O. Krushynska (ENTEG), Dr. Wang will collaborate with leading teams through secondments with Prof. Jacopo Maria De Ponti (Politecnico di Milano) and Prof. Marios Kotsonis and Prof. Woutijn Baars (TU Delft), bringing together metasurface concepts and aeroacoustic expertise across Europe. The ultimate goal of SiLeNT is to advance topological acoustofluidic metasurfaces into practical technologies for quieter and greener aviation.
